10 Year Old Girl Wins National Handwriting Contest Despite Not Having Hands - Is Better At Life Than You Are
FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. — Sara Hinesley is a third-grader at St. John’s Regional Catholic School in Frederick who says that she recognized a natural talent for writing cursive as soon as she learned it.
Her achievements in penmanship were recently recognized with the Nicholas Maxim Award in the 2019 Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest. What makes Sara’s skilled handwriting so impressive? She was born without hands.
Alright so this might be one of the more impressive things I think I’ve ever seen. The winner of the U.S. National Handwriting contest is a 10 year old girl….oh and she DOES NOT HAVE HANDS! She also dropped this incredible quote that will make of us feel like instant shit for not trying hard enough in life.
“Things I can’t do, I try to figure out what way I can do it, and try my best to make it work,” Sara said.
Too lazy to lose weight because it takes too much effort? Can’t fix the cable box? Can’t find your shoes and give up after looking for 10 seconds? We’re just a bunch of quitters and then Sara over here is winning national handwriting competitions without hands. We all suck, Sara wins.
I will say, I saw Sara’s handwriting and thought I would try to beat her, because that’s the competitor in me.
If I can be frank, I think I routed her. Okay maybe not, but listen if you gave me lines to write in between I don’t think it would be close. Then again she doesn’t have hands which is also quite the disadvantage. Some are saying having lines to write in is more of a PED than having hands. I’m not saying that, but some are.
P.S. Learning script in school was the biggest waste of time in the history of learning. They made it seem like you would be shunned from the world if you couldn’t do it as an adult. Anything you did in print would be unacceptable in modern day society. We were lied to as human beings and I will never forgive the American educational system for that. We could have had an extra hour of recess/lunch instead of learning cursive and made the world a better place.
